KNIGHTS U12: CHAMPIONS OF
THE 2023 SHAMROCK SELECT TOURNAMENT
The North York Knights U12 Select team won its second tournament of the season at the 2023 Shamrock Select Tournament which was held April 7th-9th, 2023 in Scarborough, Ontario. The Knights opened the tournament with a couple of one-goal wins before heading into the team’s final preliminary round game of the tournament against Ted Reeve, the team that had just recently eliminated the Knights from the league playoffs. In a tense back and forth battle, the Knights pulled out a 3-2 victory in overtime, securing first place in the preliminary round and a bye into the tournament semi-finals. The Knights arrived at the rink on Sunday morning fired up for the semi-final match against the Scarborough Ice Raiders, and put together a great team performance, dispatching Scarborough 6-0 to advance to the tournament finals. Sunday afternoon’s final was a rematch against Ted Reeve, and the Knights got out to a quick start and a 2-0 lead heading into the third period. The Tornados battled back, and the game headed to overtime once again. The first 10 minute overtime period of 3-on-3 hockey was nail-biting, but did not solve the contest, and the game moved on to a second overtime period. Two minutes into the second overtime the Knights scored a fantastic rebound goal to take home the championship. Congrats to the Knights U12 team on another great tournament win!
