Knights U12: Champions of
the 2023 MHL Challenge Tournament
The North York Knights U12 Select team closed out the season in style, winning tournaments on back-to-back weekends and securing the team’s third tournament victory of the season at the MHL Challenge Tournament, held April 13th-16th, 2023 in Mississauga, Ontario. Once again, the Knights went through the preliminary round undefeated, opening the tournament with a 6-1 victory against the Guelph Gryphons, followed by a 3-1 win over the Oakville Rangers and a 2-2 tie against the Erindale Spitfires. The semi-final matchup on Sunday morning pitted the Knights against the Meadowvale Hawks, and the Knights came ready to play, overwhelming the Hawks with speed and puck movement in securing an 8-0 victory to advance to the finals, and a rematch against Erindale. The second Erindale game was as close as the first, with chances at both ends and strong goaltending performances for both teams. The Knights opened the scoring midway through the first period, but despite controlling most of the play over the course of the game, could not break through for an insurance goal. The one goal was enough though as the Knights secured a 1-0 victory to bring home another trophy. Congratulations and thank you to all the U12 Knights players, coaches, parents and other supporters for their dedication through a fantastic 2022-2023 season.
